Nonprofit Accountant/Finance Associate

For over 35 years the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and the Leslie Science & Nature Center have been creating moments of discovery that inspire curiosity, exploration and respect for STEAM and the natural world. With more than 250 interactive science and technology exhibits, children of all ages have the opportunity to create and participate in hands-on adventures.

We encourage our team members to be curious, foster innovation, visualize the big picture and take the lead when creating and implementing strategies for achieving our mission. As the Accountant/Finance Associate, you’ll work alongside our CFO to implement sound nonprofit financial management practices. This role will be a great fit if you want to make a difference within the community while utilizing your strengths in accounting, payroll processing and cash management. 

How you’ll contribute:

  • Assist the CFO with monthly, quarterly, and year end close, quarterly forecasts, and annual budgets

  • Provide assistance with actual to budget variance analysis in order to prepare commentary on financial statements, including assisting Director and Manager level staff in understanding their financial statements

  • Perform general ledger account and bank statement reconciliations

  • Process accounts payables and receivables; build positive relationships with vendors and patrons

  • Handle cash payments and reconciliations; make bank deposits on an as needed basis

  • Process payroll for our staff on a bi-weekly basis

  • Assist with various financial special projects, including grant reporting by supplying financial information for grant applications and grant management

  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field (or equivalent years of experience) plus related experience ideally in a non-profit setting

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize while meeting the demands and deadlines of simultaneous projects and activities

  • Proven focus on attention to detail and accuracy

  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word and QuickBooks (or comparable financial software)

  • Experience processing payroll highly preferred (Paycor is our current payroll system)

  • Ability to work collegially within a small organization

  • Excellent customer service orientation

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt position that includes access to a comprehensive benefits package including medical and dental healthcare, paid vacation & sick days, 9 paid holidays, retirement plan, EAP, membership discounts and more! The salary range is $55,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience.

The Accountant/Finance Associate will work Monday-Friday alongside our team at our Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and Leslie Science & Nature Center locations with an option for a hybrid work model after the initial onboarding period.
