Alyssa Domen
Alyssa Domen started working with Unity in Learning at the beginning of 2023 as a part-time educator. She has experience in experiential learning through working at nature centers, as a troop leader with Girl Scouts, tutoring, and leading teens in outdoor excursions. She is passionate about providing engaging educational experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds. Outside of work, Alyssa enjoys being outdoors, making music, and being silly.

Ewan Inglis
Ewan Inglis is an Exhibits Technician with a background in theater and set-building. Outside of work, he loves history, language learning, and making things work. He’s new to Ann Arbor and Michigan, and is excited to explore!

Derek Schrader
Derek Schrader has been on our team since 2016. In that time, Derek has worked hand in hand with both the facilities and exhibits teams to achieve a beautiful, functional, and fun museum experience for all of our visitors. Derek lives in neighboring Ypsilanti and a few of their many hobbies include hiking, gardening, and skateboarding.
Porsha Baughley
Porsha Baughey is a senior at Eastern Michigan University, studying Interdisciplinary Environmental Social Science with a concentration in Society. Porsha says when she comes to work she “can't wait to help kids become excited about science and learn new facts about our environment and wildlife!”

Matthew Darnell
Matthew Darnell joined the organization as an educator in 2022 after teaching middle school social studies for the state of Michigan. When not teaching, Matthew can be found reading and spending time with his family. He loves history and nature, and hopes to encourage others to think critically about the relationships between nature and society.

Emilia Callan
Emilia Callan grew up in here in Ann Arbor, where their early experience fostering kittens inspired a lifelong interest in animals and ecology. Emilia is a recent MSU graduate, earning a bachelors degree in Environmental Biology & Zoology. When she’s not working, Emilia enjoys practicing her wildlife photography skills, learning a new song on the ukulele, and spending time with her four wonderful cats. Emilia is passionate about protecting our natural world, and hopes to encourage an admiration for science in all.

Ari Coester joined the team in 2023 as an educator. As a graduate with an ecology and evolutionary biology degree, he eagerly shares with others his passion for science, especially local flora and fauna. When not on the clock, he can be found drinking copious amounts of tea, roaming through local nature areas, or scribbling away at his drawing tablet.

Batsheva Glatt
Batsheva Glatt joined the Education staff in 2017, which she credits to a fortunate series of events triggered by setting up a worm bin in a garage. She loves being in nature, caring for plants and animals, and participating in "AHA!" moments of discovery with other humans. Batsheva enjoys being at home with her companion human Toby, and admiring arthropods in her pollinator garden. In the winter, you will find her listening to audiobooks and knitting.

Najat Hachemi studied journalism and English at Eastern Michigan University. She is an Ann Arbor native and grew up going to the Leslie Science and Nature Center and the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. Najat has a passion for working with children and hopes to provide the same positive learning experiences that allowed her to fall in love with the sites when she was a kid. When she isn’t working, she can be found roller blading, swimming, and hanging out with friends.

Luke Jacobs
Luke Jacobs started as a camp volunteer and member of the Youth Guidance Team at Leslie Science & Nature Center. He went on to work as a seasonal Summer Camp educator while studying Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience at the University of Michigan, and has now joined the organization year-round as part of the Education team.

Casey Ghesquiere has loved coming to the Hands-On Museum since her first school field trip here. You might have seen them crocheting at the front desk, and they are very excited to announce their start with the Education team! They love teaching learners of all ages and cannot wait to work with animals. In her spare time, Casey likes to hang out with friends, chill with her cats and try to sew their own clothes. Hopefully someday they’ll get a dog, ducks, and goats, and finish crocheting their sweater.

Natalie Sloggett
Natalie Sloggett has wanted to work in public science & history education every since they first went to a national park and listened to a park ranger give a presentation. They have a BA in history from Alma College, and when they’re aren’t wandering in the woods or strolling through a museum, they are playing piano or performing in a choir.

Katy Hunter
Katy Hunter is an astronomer, Connecticut native, and U of M graduate. In her free time, she reads, plays ultimate frisbee, does an assortment of crafts, and watches soccer. They love ice cream, Spiderman, and the color blue.

Rachel Lorenc
Rachel Lorenc grew up visiting the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum and is thrilled to now be working here as an Educator. She is a graduate of Brigham Young University where she studied anthropology and archaeology. Besides her passion for teaching, museums, and ancient things, she loves to read, play games, and FaceTime with her nephews.
