2025-2026 Break Camps
During each of our one-day break camps, campers will experience an exciting, hands-on theme engaging with STEM, environmental science, and the exploration of our beautiful natural space. Themes will be adapted for both a younger and an older group of scientists!
Grade levels K–5 are welcome, with a fee of $75/day and a $20 non-refundable deposit due at the time of registration.
All camps are held from 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. at Leslie Science & Nature Center.
Fall Sessions- Registration opens 9/15/25 at 9am
September 29th, 2025- Choice Day!
That's right! This day is all choices! Choose from sports, games, hikes, experiments, art, and more in this exciting one-day camp. Take your pick of activities not once, but twice in the morning. Then, cap it off in the afternoon with the incredible choice carnival where you'll play games, do a craft, eat a yummy snack and more!
October 13th, 2025- Choice Day!

November 4th, 2025- Field Science Explorers
Get your clipboards, rulers, & magnifying glasses ready as we collect & log scientific data to answer questions from "what bird is that?" to "where do bugs hang out?" Learn how to use tools like eBird and iNaturalist to help spread your scientific discoveries to the broader community.
November 26th- Thankful for Nature
Explore all of the incredible ways the natural world provides us with food, shelter, energy, and more! Show your gratitude for nature by learning how to reduce waste, conserve pollinator habitats, and care for the amazing planet we call home during this one-day camp.
November 28th, 2025- Trails and Tales
Get ready for a one-day camp filled with animals, fun, and friends! Follow clues on the trail to uncover a story as you explore the great outdoors. Then, write and illustrate your own stories and play theatrical games as you tell stories about Black Pond Woods and the creatures that live there.
Winter Session- Registration opens 12/1/25 at 9am
December 22nd, 2025- Bird Bonanza
Have you ever wanted to fly? Let your imagination soar in this one-day camp all about birds. Use scientific tools to study feathers up close to investigate how birds fly, where they live, and what they do to survive.
December 23rd, 2025- Mammal Madness
Winter is a wonderful time for a one-day camp where you’ll track mammals, explore the feat of hibernation, and discover how these furry animals survive cold Michigan winters. Experiment with how animals stay warm, keep hidden, and find food in a winter wood!
December 29th, 2025- Invertebrate Investigations
Pull out your magnifying glasses and microscopes for this one-day break camp! Get ready to explore insects and arachnids up close and personal while learning about their importance in our world!
December 30th, 2025- Herp Hootenanny
Scales, slime, eggs, metamorphosis, oh my! A one-day camp centered around snakes, frogs, turtles, and more is sure to leave you "hopping" for more!
December 31st, 2025- Stories in the Snow
In the winter, animals venture out and about create stories in the snow and mud that we can learn to read. Join us for a day of exploring the power of stories as we learn to understand the tales these animals are telling and practice creating our own.
January 2nd, 2026- Winter Survival
Learn about how animals survive in winter by caching food, finding shelter, and preparing to hibernate. Then, practice skills that humans use to stay safe and warm when adventuring in the cold outdoors during this one-day camp.
January 19th , 2026- Community
Join us on Martin Luther King Jr. day for this one-day camp where we learn what it means to be a volunteer! Help make an impact by cleaning up the trails in Black Pond Woods, learn what it takes to care for our wildlife residents, and craft some seed bombs to plant in spring!
February 13th, 2026- Love the Outdoors
This one-day camp combines the spirit of Valentine's Day with love for Nature! Learn how to make recycled paper valentines, write poems for the local wildlife, and spend time outdoors celebrating the end of winter.
February 16th, 2026- Find Your Way
Humans and animals have many tricks for finding their way from place to place in this one-day camp. Make maps, track animals, and learn how animals navigate in unfamiliar territory.
February 17th, 2026- Guardians of the Ecosystem
Discover the superpowers of animals and plants at LSNC and unleash your own heroic abilities at this exciting one-day camp. Learn how animals achieve super speed, invisibility, and night vision, and practice using those powers in your own life.
Spring Sessions- Registration opens 3/2/26 at 9am
March 30th, 2026- In Your Backyard
Nature is everywhere! We can find it in the park, at your school, and even growing in the cracks in the sidewalk! Come find out what makes Michigan's ecosystems tick as we venture outside to find out just what lives in our own backyards. Practice finding and identifying the plants, birds, insects, and other animals that are right under your nose.
March 31st, 2026- Grossology
Investigate how turkey vultures defend themselves with vomit and experiment with molds and yeasts at this fantastic one-day camp. Study scat (the scientific word for poop) and other things left behind at the other end of the food chain.
April 1st, 2026- Burrows, Webs, Nests
Burrows, webs, and nests, oh my! For this camp we'll head outside to see animal engineering at work. Practice finding and creating shelters as we learn about what every animal needs to survive!
April 2nd, 2026- Dream Green
Uncover the world's most dangerous invasive species as we explore how humans impact the world around us. Learn about water quality, food production, and imagine a future that is healthy for humans and the natural world.
April 3rd, 2026- Into the Woods
What lives under a log, in a leafy canopy, or underneath a tree's bark? Take a hike into Black Pond Woods to learn about the many plants, animals, and fungi that call Michigan forests home. We'll explore animal habitats and learn about how a forest changes over many years.
